Consultation with young people

Consultation with young people

At Optimum Response Care, we hold residents' perspectives in high regard, considering them not only important but also greatly valued. This approach plays a pivotal role in fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility in the lives of our young individuals. We wholeheartedly embrace the principle of partnership, aligning with the principles outlined in the Children Act 1989. In practice, the principle of partnership is actively upheld through effective communication and meaningful consultation, which are realized through the following engagement avenues:

Engaging with young individuals through key-working sessions involves seeking their input on various aspects, such as:

  • Home decor and furnishings, including their personal bedrooms.
  • Choices regarding recreational, sporting, and cultural activities.
  • Preferences for birthday and Christmas presents.
  • Matters related to education and career paths, such as subject choices, exams, and selecting colleges or training providers.
  • Opportunities, when applicable, to participate in staff selection processes.
  • Where relevant, the ability to choose their key worker.
  • Open discussions on all health-related concerns.

It's essential to note that these examples are not exhaustive, and we are committed to considering a wide range of viewpoints. Additionally, we facilitate consultation through:

  • Regular house meetings.
  • Conducting anonymous feedback questionnaires every six months.
  • Exploring the young person's views, preferences, and beliefs regarding their religious and cultural affiliations upon referral.
Purpose of the service
